As many agencies will know the Recruitment industry is a competitive one with the sector itself being worth about 1.73 billion a year (recent estimate from NRF via the Irish Times). So at Brompton, we want our employees to be leaders in their chosen field and by creating a collaborative and interactive approach to learning it encourages consultants to be inquisitive, innovative and creative in their careers.
I am implementing an L&D programme at Brompton that is focused on driving productivity through a mixture of classroom style learning and goal setting as well as investing in software platforms that enhance the consultants experience through e-learning and interactive gamification methods.
2016 a great year for Brompton
We were finalists at the Checkout magazine awards for the Best Recruitment Provider in Retail and this came just a few weeks before I was shortlisted for Recruitment Consultant of the Year 2016 by The National Recruitment Federation. These were great wins for the team and they have spurred us on.
These nominations showed us that we must leap into 2017 with a bang.
Leaving the past behind
We had hired consultants through referrals in the past, that had recruitment experience and we offered them autonomy, ownership of their own desk & pipeline and eliminated their KPIS (due to their experience) and just focused on Monthly targets and Business Development in a fun & relaxed working environment.
This business model wasn’t enough and we had to keep tweaking the model as morale levels were low and there wasn’t any gelling within the team as many consultants had come from a mixture of agencies with different schools of thought and working environments. We had started to inherit bad behaviours and habits that weren’t our own doing, Despite our best efforts at team building, staff lunches and incentives, it wasn’t working and consultants weren’t buying into the process at Brompton.
Something was missing – a key ingredient.
There was some ingredient that we just hadn’t thought of yet.
We had to align anyone that was inherently a ‘Brompton person’ with our brand values and invest in them.
They had to be willing, ready and loyal.
Recruitment expo 2017, London
This week we travelled to London to the Recruitment Expo 2017 at the Olympia. It opened our eyes to the fact that we have a lot to offer our consultants.
Professional development and applied learning
I am currently studying for certification in my CIPD course with focus on professional development, hrm and employment law and applying this learning to my workflow and to my team
Our current team has varied backgrounds but we share the same vision. We are moving forward with Brompton people that love the company as much as we do.
This paired with 20 years of experience in the traditional recruitment industry can set the bar high for retaining our talent and keeping them at Brompton.
This way we can better attract, develop and retain our consultants
We aim to boost morale by unlocking each employees true potential.
