Sometimes we can get frantic and that is very normal. But what we need to remember is that we really can only do one thing at a time.

Today, we are under so much pressure and there are demands on our time everywhere we look. We are on our laptop and phones constantly. Our brain is always going and scrolling through our phones is a constant in our every day life.

At work, we are exposed to so many platforms and systems that some days you feel that your brain might explode – but don’t fret – these tips might help to manage your focus and focus on the task at hand using emotional intelligence, mindfulness, breaking things down, rewarding yourself and managing yourself and your space – mentally and physically

1.BE NICE TO YOURSELF

Self-empathy allows you to speak to yourself the way that you would speak to others and being kind to yourself on tasks will allow the right momentum for the task. Check your emotions and how you manage yourself during tasks and ask yourself if you are being nice to yourself. If you are saying things like ‘can’t’ and ‘won’t’ then that is the result you will get. Tell yourself that you are doing your best the same way that you would tell a child that they are doing their best and that wherever you are at that stage on the project/report/deadline is going to be okay.

2. BE MINDFUL AT WORK

Be mindful of the purpose of the task and be aware whether the task is important to your work day. If you are getting bogged down with the task and find that you cant break away from it then assess the importance of the task and break it down. If its not important just prioritize it last. Take deep breaths and keep your two feet on the ground. Be grounded and present in the moment.

3. BREAK YOUR TASK DOWN INTO BITE-SIZE PIECES

Bitesize pieces – break your task down into chunks and blocks of time. If you have a deadline for the friday write the task into your diary on every day of the week and devote a small bit of time to it EACH DAY in order to achieve success on it. Combined efforts over time will always lead to success

4.KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR EVIDENCE BASED SUCCESS

As Henry Ford once said – whether you think you can or think you cant – youre right. if you doubt yourself and your ability you may be dooming yourself for failure. Some nice self talk when you are under pressure never goes astray. ‘I can do this’ , ‘ I got this’ – if you look at what you have already achieved rather than what you are aiming to achieve you can observe the success that you have experienced in the past through hard work. Remind yourself of these success stories so that it can spur on further.

5. CLOSE YOUR TABS & GO OFFLINE

Close all your tabs and emails if you are working on something that requires no internet. this will stop you getting distracted.

And most importantly – reward yourself at the end – and pat yourself on the back.
